KLS is a locally owned and has been in this business for over 50 years. We've become somewhat of an expert on soil and landscaping products and how to use them. There is a lot of information and tips that we love to share and available to you throughout the site in the different product categories. Drainage

When a house basement is installed a hole is dug to construct the basement walls. After the basement walls are done the soil is pushed back against the outside of the basement or backfilled. It is the backfilled area around the basement that is susceptible to settling and is typically more porous than undisturbed ground. The roof water should end up outside this perimeter. Usually 10 feet is sufficient unless the surface grade slopes back toward the house.

Weed-Barriers

Weed barrier should be used under all stone mulch to keep weeds down. It is not recommended for use under bark and wood mulch. Good quality fabric is determined by its ability to keep down weeds verses how well it lets water and oxygen through.

Winter / Ice Melt

There are many blended ice melt products claiming some sort of unique or break-though ingredient. With the exception of some processed corn or other hyped up ingredient, all use some combination of two or more of the following: salt (sodium chloride), potassium chloride, magnesium chloride and calcium chloride.

Yard Waste

We accept yard waste including grass clippings, leaves brush, sticks and branches up to 12” in diameter. The material must be free of foreign material such as household garbage, litter and soil. Root balls and yard waste will be accepted if completely free from soil. Please consider that the material will be run through a grinder so foreign objects including soil may contaminate the final product or damage the machinery.
